Upgraded my MacBook Pro to OS X Lion

OS X Lion released, I can’t wait and upgraded my MacBook Pro to the OS X Lion from the App Store. It took me around 1 hour to download the  3-4 gb OS X Lion Installation file. and it took another 40 minutes to install. It is very easy for someone who doesn’t know how to operate computer. It is same as what Apple advertised on their web, “Just a few click” you can install OS X Lion on your Apple machine.

The next thing I am going to do is to upgrade to OS X Lion on my hackintosh at home.

But one thing I notice on my MacBook Pro, the performance on Lion is worst than the previous OS X on my Macbook Pro. My Macbook Pro is running on a Quad core i7 chip with 4gb memory which is better than the new Macbook Air, however, I notice a slow down on opening applications and takes longer time for boot up.

I will see other than that if there is any other different on this OS X Lion.

A Black Box for car

During my visit in Hong Kong last month, I saw something interesting in an electronic shop. They were selling something called “Automotive Black Box” it is something like a “Block box” which used on an aeroplanes. It is also called an accident recorder, which can be used as a video Evidence if you had an accident and someone was at fault. i.e someone reverse into you, but said you hit him from the back. Cisco is a big brand for network equipments. Most enterprises, government departments, etc are all using Cisco equipment in their networks. How about small businesses? Unfortunately, Cisco is a big brand and it is also an expensive brand, while all the big businesses and government bodies can afford to use the Cisco equipments, the small businesses are not able to afford that in most of the case.

Beware of $8.8/half kg Crab – 南苑海鮮酒家 Beverly Chinese Seafood Restaurant

Just had a dinner at Beverly Chinese Seafood Restaurant (located in Beverly Hills, Sydney) with some of my friends, the reason we picked that restaurant was because my friends want to have the discounted crabs there. As advertised on their food menu, Monday to Friday Dinner Crabs are selling at $8.8 per half kg. which is $17.6 per kg. What I normally see those in the market is around $29.99 per kg, which is nearly 45% off the market price + someone cook them for you. Sound like it is a good deal.

We have 12 people and we ordered a total 7.4kg Crabs, when the dishes arrived we looked at them, we found that the size of the crabs didn’t look like they worth 1kg each. there were a total of 7 crabs in the dish, however, only 1 of them look big enough to reach 1kg, all other crabs were small and tiny which should only weight a maximum 800gram.

Just an estimation, they have over charged us at least 1.5kg. (which I believe it could possibly over 2kg).

To all other people searching for this restaurant, my advise is DO NOT GO TO this restaurant!!!

My Blog is IPv6 ready!! IPv6 day is coming!!

ipv6 ready

My web site http://blog.howardtang.com is now IPv6 ready. You can visit my blog via IPv6 connections. Unfortunately, it is IPv6 over IPv4, as a result it should be slower than IPv4. I have purchased a new server and will be install to a colocation which will provide me a native IPv6 connection. By that time, using IPv6 to access my blog should be a lot faster than using IPv4. (only 1% of the world is using IPv6 at the moment. So, it shouldn’t be congested.)

I hope I will see more people get on IPv6.

Are the Drinks Safe in Chatime Australia?

Chatime – a popular milk tea franchise store in Australia. Most of the materials and ingredients were directly imported from Taiwan. Currenlty, news are everywhere in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan talking about the Drinks made in Taiwan has been affected by a chemical DEHP which makes the drink become poison to human.
